June 2009 - Girl Scout Troop Earns " Food, Fibers, and Farming" Badge
The Girl Scouts earned a "Food, Fibers, and Farming" Badge and an “Alpaca Farm Tour” Patch by learning about Alpacas and participating in a wet felting workshop with the Alpaca Fleece.
June 14th - Troop 3525
Their Farm Tour consisted of a walk to the barn to learn about the living quarters and what’s required to raise alpacas. They learned about the Alpacas, how Alpaca fleece is processed, and the import of Alpacas to the USA.
The girls participated in a fiber workshop where they were taught how to do a Wet Felting project. They each made 3 or 4 felted beads from shorn Alpaca Fleece. The beads were threaded together to make the ring, bracelet or necklace.
The Girl Scouts took the Wet Felted jewelry they made and some informational handouts home.
An educational and fun time was had by ALL!!!
