Amy is a student at Blue Ridge Community College. She's studying animal science as part of the Vet Technician program; and as part of her class she is learning about husbandry, housing, and veterinary care for various animals. She was required to explore an animal that might be a part of their veterinary care as vet techs. She scheduled a farm tour with the intention to ask few questions around.

June 4, 2011 - Ashland Strawberry Faire
We set up a booth at the Ashland Strawberry Faire this year.
We took a portable pen for Domino and Nugget.
Our farm display included our: brochures, alpaca yarn, "Coat on a Goat" TM, and Wet Felting Craft Kits.
We talked to countless folks about our farm, alpacas, and products...it was a beautiful day!!
Our Granddaughter was in the Miss Strawberry pageant,
with 23,000 people at the faire her pageant pictures were the only ones we had time to take.

April 2011 - Shearing Day
We sheared 25 alpacas in about 4 hours on April 9th 2011!! Our crop is here!! On our busiest day of the year!!
We started preparing our, Hands-on Wet Felting with Alpaca Fiber, Craft Kits in April 2011. We offer them in our online store, at our open houses, and you'll see them when we attend craft fairs around VA.
We currently offer a Beads Kit to make a bracelet, necklace, or cat toy and a Craft Your Own "Coat on a Goat" TM kit.

January 14, 2011 - Mudslide goes to Rhode Island.
Mudslide was picked up and taken to his new home in Rhode Island.

Using a Wet Felting techique everyone successfully crafted Beads for a Bracelet and Necklace, a Finger Puppet, Felted Soap, and a Change Purse, from Alpaca Fiber.

June 27th, 2010 - Sterling Silver Arrived On Our Farm
We looked for a Champion Silver Grey male to add to our Herdsire list. We chose Sterling Silver.
Sterling is a 3x Champion. His awards include one Championship and two Reserve Championships from very competitive grey classes.
Sterling’s maternal brother is AofO Silver Celebration, his show wins included 23 blue ribbons and 21 banners.
Keep an eye on this male we expect him to have crias in 2011.
June 5th, 2010 - Noky Arrived On Our Farm
Noky arrived on our farm June 5th, 2010.
When we took Gallagher and Mudslide to Fishwood Farm to be sheared, we saw Noky and brought him home wth us.
Noky's sire is MFI Peruvian Titan's Clash Peruvian, his grandsire is Julius Caesar, and his great grandsire is PPeruvian Caligula G4572. What a pedigree....
Keep an eye on this young male as he matures into one of our leading herdsires.

May 8th, 2010 - JR Girl Scout Troop Earns "Yarn and Fabric Arts" Badge
During May a Girl Scout Troop Earned a "Yarn and Fabric Arts" Badge.
Their Farm Tour consisted of a walk to the barn to learn about the living quarters and what’s required to raise alpacas.
They learned about the Alpacas, how Alpaca fleece is processed, and the import of Alpacas to the USA.
Everyone participated in a fiber workshop where they were taught how to do Wet Felting. The girls made beads out of the Alpaca fiber; the finished product was either a bracelet or necklace that they wore home.
An educational and fun time was had by ALL!!!
April 2010 - Shearing
Shearing took place on April 15th this year. We had 19 Alpacas to shear. The shearers, Pat, Sherry, Ike, Kathy, and Dakota sheared everyone in about 4 hours.
Rhiannon was due with her spring cria and on day 359 of her pregnancy, being sheared brought on her labor and the delivery of Gallagher.
Our granddaughter saw her first Alpaca birth, after Gallagher was delivered she yelled out, "All Done!!"
December 4th, 2009 - Featured on WWBT 12 "Picture Your Pet".

Featured on WWBT 12 "Picture Your Pet" Dec. 4th, 2009.
We sent Logan's new born picture to Channel 12 in late August and won 2 tickets to Kings Dominion. On December 4th the picture was shown during the "Picture Your Pet" segment.
They said this was the first alpaca picture on the show!!
Carol Chudoba; is a student at PurdueUniversity enrolled in the Veterinary Technician Distance Learning Program.She had an assignment in her "Animal Science and Industry" course to write a paper on an aspect of animal production that interests her.
Carol chose to write her Animal Production Interview paper on the subject of the alpaca farming industry in the United States.She contacted us in early November after seeing our website and asked if she could interview us for her paper.
Carol and her husband visited us on a Sunday afternoon.We talked about alpacas for a couple of hours.In late November she sent us a copy of her Production Interview paper and informed us that she received an "A" for her final grade.
The Cadets participated in a Farm Tour and a Wet Felting Workshop with the Alpaca Fleece.
This group gets a special treat. Topaz was born on the morning of their event. She was only a couple of hours old when they visited the barn.Questions and discussions about the delivery and her neonatal care was an exciting part of their experience.
The troop plans to revisit our farm on our Shearing day in April.We’re looking forward to having them back at the farm!!

In April 2009 I was contacted by Peter Rysko, the publisher of the International Camelid Quarterly(CQ).He had seen the Our Farm page of our website and asked me to write an article about our paddock design for their June 2009 CQ issue.

June 27th, 2009 - JR Girl Scout Troop Earns "Yarn and Fabric Arts" Badge
On June 27th, 2009 JR Girl Scouts earned a "Yarn and Fabric Arts" Badge by learning about Alpacas and participating in a wet felting workshop with the Alpaca Fleece.
You’ll notice the troop wore matching “Action Girl” shirts to the farm.
An educational and fun time was had by ALL!!!
June 14th, 2009 - Girl Scout Troop Earns "Food, Fibers, and Farming" Badge
On June 14th, 2009 Girl Scouts earned a "Food, Fibers, and Farming" Badge and an “Alpaca Farm Tour” Patch by learning about Alpacas and participating in a wet felting workshop with the Alpaca Fleece.
Before the troop left the farm they offered us one of the "Food, Fibers, and Farming" Badge and an “Alpaca Farm Tour” Patch.

Shearing took place on April 3rd this year.We had 16 Alpacas to shear.Darren from Wyoming and Sam from New Zealand, with some help from Pat, Sherry, and Kathy sheared everyone in about 2 hours.
On the left is a picture of Darren (red shirt), Sam (long hair), and Pat (hat) working on Sampson.Darren does the shearing and Sam helps hold and position the alpaca being sheared.Pat is trimming toe nails and bagging up the fleece as it is sheared.
March 21st, 2009 - Lucky Arrived On Our Farm
We looked for a True Black male we could add to our Herdsire list. We chose Lucky Charm.
Lucky Charm is a son of the well known “2006 Reserve Herd Sire of the Year” Dark Shaddow. Lucky is the Grandson of Black Ice and his Great Grandsire is 5Peruvian Camelot 9040. What a pedigree....
Keep an eye on this male we expect him to have crias in 2010.

October 11th, 2008 - Girl Scouts of VA - High Five for 95 Anniversary
On October 11th, 2008 the Girl Scouts of Virginia celebrated their 95th Anniversary at the Greater Richmond Convention Center. As an invited guest we brought 2 of our Alpacas (Cody & Gustav), setup our farm display, and provided a morning and afternoon craft for the girls.
In the morning about 400 girls glued alpaca fiber to an alpaca shaped refrigerator magnet.
In the afternoon about 50 girls wet felted alpaca beads and made a bracelet or a necklace.

In 2006 our 3 cria's, 2 girls and 1 boy, were born on the farm where their mother's were being boarded.We were busy setting up the barn and fence for their arrival.
Lady, Sierra, and Cody were all born in the fall they arrived on the farm with their moms in December 2006.
Lady's name is First Lady; she was our 1st born and our 1st girl.
